The Institute for Health Policy at the UTHealth School of Public Health, led by Dr. Stephen Lindner, recently published the results of its most recent County-wide health survey at healthofhouston.org, which found that, “One in five Harris County residents rates their health as poor or fair…double the U.S. average and no better than nearly a decade ago.” The study also found wide geographic and ethnic disparities and only modest gains in favorable health outcomes over about the last decade.

When it came to interpreting the findings and putting them in a broader health context, the Chronicle came calling on Ken for his insights.

“Ken Janda, a former Houston insurance company CEO, said the report “highlights something that should be obvious — health outcomes are strongly correlated with income. In order to improve the overall health of Texas and Houston in particular we have to improve access to healthy environments, activities and care for low-income populations.”

Ken continues to be a voice of authority in the conversation around health outcomes and equity. Thanks to the Houston Chronicle for always knowing who to call and for publicizing this important study to keep the conversation going.
